Please note, this pattern is photographed in a smaller hoop than is actually included in the kit - it comes with a normal 15cm bamboo embroidery hoop which fits this pattern even more beautifully.

This poppy pattern is one of the first patterns I ever drew, they are my favorite flowers so it was a logical choice! It has 2 simple embroidery stitches, that is why I am marking it as suitable for a beginner. The pattern looks detailed but all the blades of grass are embroidered in the same super simple way and when you take that away there is very little left!

The package comes with a detailed online manual that explains exactly how the stitches work, how to easily trace the pattern onto your canvas and all sorts of other tips and tricks. You also get access to a larger basic embroidery manual where all the basic embroidery stitches are explained and you can find 10 other embroidery patterns.

The pattern consists of the following basic stitches:

  • Satin stitch
  • Outline stitch

These stitches are explained using text, illustrations and videos so that even a beginner can master them in no time.

What's in the embroidery kit?

  • Bamboo embroidery hoop 15cm
  • 4 strands of high-quality embroidery thread from the AIRO brand
  • Needle set with 3 needles in different sizes
  • Water-soluble pattern drawing marker
  • Off-white cotton embroidery fabric
  • Wire cutter
  • Detailed online manual via QR code in the box
  • The package comes in a kraft letterbox box with pink tissue paper on the inside

After embroidering this pattern, you will still have a lot of embroidery thread left and the 2 embroidery stitches that appear in this pattern under control. With the water-soluble pattern drawing pen, you can, for example, draw extra patterns on a tote bag or clothing and thus make your own mini-embroideries with the leftover threads! The pen will last up to 2 years and everything you draw with it can be washed out with a little water. So if you have also caught the embroidery virus, you can continue with the items from the kit even after embroidering the poppies.

Why is the pattern not printed on the canvas?

To save money, it was decided not to pre-print the pattern on the canvas. I want to keep the embroidery kits affordable and adding a pattern drawing pen to the kit turned out to be a more economical choice than the alternative. Copying the pattern onto your canvas is an easy job, I show exactly how to do it with a video and discuss various techniques. You can then also use the pattern drawing pen to copy other patterns or even to draw your own pattern.

About Daffie's Embroidery Kits

The embroidery kits that are sold via Daffie's are packed in the Netherlands by the Nora works foundation. People with a distance to the labor market work there, who can still participate in a protected environment at their own pace. With every ordered kit, the Nora foundation also benefits directly, because they receive a portion of the profit. It is a wonderful initiative and I am very happy with this collaboration!

I design/draw all the patterns myself, embroider the examples and make the instructions that come with the packages myself. Because I also went through the process from complete beginner to advanced embroiderer, I hope to be able to easily teach others the finer points of embroidery.

Vervaco sells kits with these patterns through its own channels worldwide. These also include manuals in many different languages. Note, these are packaged and distributed through Vervaco's channels and not by the Nora Works foundation. Manuals for the international kits are also made by Vervaco.
