Accessible look into the world of ceramics

I am an avid ceramicist, there is little that makes me as happy as spending an afternoon with my hands in the clay. Kneading, scraping, sculpting and shaping until something beautiful stands out has a very relaxing effect. I started making pots and vases with air-drying clay myself, I found a pottery workshop a bit too intimidating because I had 0.0 experience. After the first pots and vases really started to look like something and I knew how to use the tools, I signed up for a pottery workshop.

Now that I know how everything works and have already taken quite a few pots (some still broken 😉) out of the kiln, I still often work with air-drying clay. The process is exactly the same, the only difference is that this clay does not have to go into the oven and does not get a glaze layer. So if I want to work with my hands from home for an afternoon, renting a workplace in a ceramics studio is just a threshold too high for me. Air-drying clay works just as well! Of course, it is not real ceramic and unfortunately you cannot make plates or mugs with it that are actually usable. With the extra glossy sealer you can give the ceramic effect to a vase for dried flowers, for example. The clay feels heavy and with the shine it looks like 'real' ceramic.

Head out, hands on!
With the clay you can let your creativity run free, it is a forgivable thing with which 'mistakes' can be quickly corrected. It doesn't all have to be perfect! The main thing is that you have a nice afternoon. Not busy with all kinds of things for a while but just focused on what shape you are going to give the piece of clay in front of you. As mentioned above, scrolling on your phone is difficult with your hands under the clay.. see it as a real moment of rest and don't do it for the end result! You will see that you will make the most beautiful things then ☺️.

Mixing colors
The large clay starter kit includes a refresher lesson on mixing primary colours. With the colours in this kit you can theoretically mix any colour that exists as long as you use the correct mixing ratio! Each tube contains 75ml of acrylic paint - more than enough to make some mistakes while mixing and just try it out!

Clay manual full of inspiration
In addition to the explanation of the basic techniques within pottery and how to work with all the tools, the manual also contains a lot of inspiration! The images for inspiration are accompanied by a short accompanying text that explains exactly how the pot/vase/miniature in the image was made.

In addition to a number of pots and vases, there is also a page with a special Christmas theme. Here you can find how I made Christmas ornaments and houses with the air-drying clay from the package!
