Which punch needle is best to use?

Curious which punch needle is best suited for your project? I have written an extensive blog about this topic! You can find it here: Which Punch needle is the best . I can already give you a small summary of the content: It depends on what you want to punch! Do you want to work with thick wool yarn? Then use a punch needle with a thick fixed attachment that is adjustable. I do not recommend choosing a punch needle where you can change the attachments. These break very quickly, especially if you work with stiff, coarse fabric such as monk's cloth and thick wool, your punch needle will eventually come loose all the time. The thicker the fabric and yarn you are working with, the more force you have to apply. A punch needle with a needle that you can change simply cannot handle the force on lock - no matter how good it is. Therefore, choose a punch needle with a needle that is glued in place!

Do you want to work on a fine cotton fabric with thinner thread? Then a punch needle with a needle that you can change is fine, you will not quickly have any problems with it. A punch needle is adjustable because you can vary in how big the loop is that you make. In the image below you can see how the different colored boxes have different heights because some loops are larger than the other.

One of the benefits of punch needling is that it is a quick and efficient way to create a 3D effect. Unlike other craft techniques, such as embroidery or cross stitch, you do not have to make endless stitches to achieve the desired effect. Instead, the punch needle can be used to quickly prick large areas of fabric into a pattern. Punch needling is a fun and accessible technique for beginners and experienced crafters alike. It requires no special skills or experience and can be easily learned by simply trying something out for half an hour.

Punching

The great thing about an adjustable punch needle is that you know exactly what kind of loop you are going to get when you set it to a certain length and can therefore consistently punch the same pattern everywhere! In the picture you can also see a number of strips that are 'wrongly' punched. Here the punching is done from the front of the work to the back so that you do not actually get loops but stitches that are very close to the cloth. This is a nice technique to add some variation to your work.

Manual full of inspiration

Punch needling can be applied to a wide variety of projects, from wall art to clothing, tote bags and home decor such as cushions. The technique can be used to create all sorts of different patterns and textures, from abstract shapes to realistic images of animals or landscapes. It is currently especially popular to punch a tote bag completely to your own taste with cool patterns or to transform an embroidery hoop for the wall into a small work of art. Boring cushion covers are also very suitable to brighten up with a punch needle and yarn!
